You never knew when exactly he would show up again. But you knew he would, eventually.  And it was always startling, because by the time you got used to him not being around, and continued on with your life, there he would be.

And there he was. Lounging on your couch.

“There you are, darling,” he said, barely looking over. “I was beginning to worry you wouldn’t show.”
You shake your head and close the door behind you, suppressing a smile. “Hello, Loki…”
He grinned and sat up. You weren’t doing a good job suppressing that smile. “And how are we doing on this fine midgardian day?”
You walk past him and drop your school bag on the floor, and sat your purse on the table. “Fine, as always. What brings you around this time, hm?” You turn to him and wait for his answer.
“What, can’t a god want to visit one of his dearest friends on the planet?”
You roll your eyes, “I’m your only friend, it seems.”
“Now we’re just splitting hairs,” he rose from his seat. “Now come on, give us a hug,” he opened his arms.
You accepted the hug and then pulled away, feeling him try to hold onto you. “C’mon, cut it oooout,” you half laughed.
“Why don’t you ever like to be affectionate?” he asked teasingly.
“Oh, I like to be affectionate,” you pointed out. “Just not with you.”
“Ah yes, of course,” Loki whispered slightly under his breath. “Still with that boy, I take it?”
“He’s hardly a boy, and you know that,” you said, a slight edge to your voice.
“Right, yes, my apologies, my dear,” he chuckled roughly.
You shook her head again and rolled your eyes, settling on your couch and pulling out your laptop. “He’d be furious if he knew you were here,” you mention.
“Is that so? I’m a little surprised you haven’t told him. After our…initial skirmish,” Loki placed himself beside you, with little room in between.
You didn’t say anything.
“You like having a little secret from him, don’t you?” he whispered softly. “Our little secret…” he lightly twirled a lock of your hair.
You slapped his hand away, “No, that’s not it at all.”
“Really? Then do enlighten, would you?”
You leaned your head back and dragged out an exaggerated sigh. “Don’t get such a big head. It’s not like you’re giving me much options, you know?” You turned your gaze over to the god of mischief. He was resting his elbow on the back of the couch, staring at you intently.
“You’re saying it’s my doing that’s making you lie to your love?”
“Pretty much,” you answered matter-of-factly, turning back to your computer. “What else am I supposed to do? Tell him, have him freak out, possibly get in contact with the police, then somehow have S.H.I.E.L.D come crashing into my apartment ready to arrest everyone in sight and basically have my life ruined?” You glared at Loki through the side of your view, “Like what almost happened last time?”
Loki was holding his chin, and stroking his lip in thought. “Yes, I suppose that was a bit of a mess, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah,” you answered sharply. “And quite honestly, I’m still kind of pissed you didn’t keep your promise of leaving me the hell alone.”
Loki tried to laugh it off but it slowly dropped to a slight frown. “I would apologize for that…” he started off slowly, “But…” he trailed off.
“You lied, yeah, I know,” you breathed out. “Really shouldn’t have expected anything different.”
“Come now, let’s not get all mucked up in the past,” Loki’s mood suddenly shifted, and he through an arm over your shoulder. “I came to see you, and have a good time, so let’s start with that, shall we?”
You kept silent and stared at your computer. You knew that was a lie, too. He doesn’t just come to visit. He comes to hide.
You felt his fingers curl tight around your shoulder. “How many times do I have to apologize for what I did?” he whispered in a low tone.
“Until you mean it,” you answered simply and peeled his hand off you.
Loki rubbed his face in obvious frustration and laughed mockingly. “Then I guess I’ll be apologizing for a long time, won’t I?”
“I think it’s time you left. My roommate should be coming back from classes soon,” you said with monotone.
“Well, I do suppose that would be a decent reason to leave…I shall return tonight?” his voice was laced with interest.
“Once again, do I have a choice?” you replied flatly.
He chuckled softly, and left as mysteriously as he had appeared. Just like always.
